Penelope by Christina Ricci and Reese Witherspoon

Beautiful story. Poor Penelope (played by Christina Ricci) was born with the family curse and hence has a snort of a pig for a nose. Naturally, her parents mourn at this great misfortune. Especially the mother. She took great pains to keep Penelope indoors. In fact, they conducted a funeral when she was just a baby to declare to the world that she is “dead”. The extent of a mother’s love…

Many men had to come for audition for her hand in marriage and they had to sign an agreement to keep mum about what they see. Needless to say, all fled at the sight of that ghastly snort. What was of greater interest to me is how Penelope seems nonchalant about the whole unpleasant reception she always receive from the gentlemen. It has all become a boring routine to her.

She yearns to explore the outside world and she was willing to risk all the potential rejection, if only she can be allowed to live a normal life. Would you have courage as such? I am thankfully born with a nose that looks like any one of yours. In fact, I rather like my nose. :)

I can only imagine how it must feel to be the owner of a snout of a pig. By god, I have to admit even I am going to have an issue with it. Hence, I was drawn towards her attitude. There was no mourning, dramatic sobbing or mopping around the room all day long. She still wanted to be out there with the world. She truly possess the heart of a lioness. Does that apply to you too?

The curse was lifted in a most incredible manner. Instead of marrying a blue blood to lift the curse as was supposed by all, she unintentionally lifted her own curse when she said,” But I am fine with the way I am!” The power was in her all along! She CAN lift her own curse! Oh my, all these years of unnecessary pain and suffering!

Are you afraid to be happy?

I think sometimes I am.

It’s like, do I have a right to be happy, to allow myself to be happy when there is so much bad things going on in the world? Plane crashes, famine, injustice, the list goes on. How can I be happy when so many out there is suffering?

And yet, if we would all think this way, wouldn’t we be trapped in an ever-looping sense of anguish and unhappiness? It will be like a fearsome tornado twisting the last drop of happiness out of the human consciousness.

I think we need to step back and recognize the insanity of this scenario.

I have the right to be happy.

I have the power to change my moods and life the spirits of another.

Yes, the world has its ever increasing problems. But while combating the problems, I can choose to be happy. And that happiness will enable me to be in a better frame of mind to find more effective solutions to solve what needs to be solved.

Therefore, I will do things that makes me happy.

Smell the flowers, enjoy a cup of aromatic coffee, take exotic dance classes.

Whatever that can lift me up and lift me high.

With that joy in my heart, I can smile at the one next in line with me. I can share my joy.

Attract abundance and prosperity by having more joy in your life.

I am not afraid to be happy.

And I love being happy.

I love falling in love with Joy.

I am happy. :)

Ever wondered where the word ‘muse‘ originated?

It was a part of the Greek mythology. Yes, the source of many great things. Apparently, muses are said to be any goddess who presided over an art or who has the ability to inspire any artiste. Such as painter, sculptor, writer, poet, composer, etc.

How about being your own muse?

Inspire yourself!

Take out a piece of paper or if you are near your computer, start a microsoft word document and start writing down the things you like about yourself.

It can be any of the following and the list is not exhaustive:

  • Ways you share your abundance and prosperity
  • Positive characteristics
  • Personal achievements
  • What you have done in the past for yourself or for others (Acts of love or kindness)
  • Sacrifices for others
  • Discipline to achieve a certain goal
  • Courage to do something when others stayed away
  • Patience with someone or something which is above average people’s tolerance level
  • Helped someone without being asked
  • Holding on when you felt like giving up

All in two minutes. Don’t over think it, go with flow. Don’t question or doubt it, just pen down all that comes to your mind. Remember, no judgment.

Time’s up. Now, take a good look at what you have wrote.

Glorious isn’t it? :) Sometimes you forget all the good traits that you have. And all the good many things that you have done.

So there, be inspired! You are great. Be your own muse!

And don’t stop here. Since you have gotten on such a brilliant start, keep it rolling! Find one aspect that you want to work on. It can be a strength or a weakness. Either can be worked on to be strengthened.

As a child, I was very fond of talking to myself. To be strictly accurate, I was NOT talking to myself. I had an imaginary friend. And I talked to her all the time. One day while waiting for the lift with my father, I talked to her about the news on the notice board.

My father immediately reprimanded me and warned me about talking to myself again. From that day onwards, I never talked to my imaginary friend again. I felt rejection from my father. And because of that, I have decided in my mind that I was wrong, I was a bad girl and I don’t deserve to be loved. That sense of self stayed with me for a long, long time.

Do you have a similar incident from childhood?

An incident seemingly innocent to others but had somehow altered the way you looked at yourself?

Few of us can come out of childhood unscathed. You don’t need to be from a abusive family to feel that way. Because our parents and other people around us during our formative years are not perfect beings and are doing their best they can.

Many of us grow up, without looking back and assumed that this is it. I am this and I am that. I will never be this and that. And we go through life that way, never re-evaluating our experiences or gives it a new positive meaning. And the world reflects back to us what we gives out.

Can you relate to these behaviors?

  • Looking at the mirror disapprovingly
  • Envying other ladies and focusing on what they are or have that you are not or don’t have
  • Giving excuses for partner’s  abusive behavior towards you (physically and/ emotionally)
  • Drawing comforts in vices (alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc)
  • Eating more than you need (especially unhealthy food)
  • Exhibits obsessive compulsive behavior (shopping beyond means, repetitive behaviors and mental acts)
  • Criticize others who are more ___, ___er openly or in your mind

The list is not exhaustive. If you can identify with one or more of the behaviors, you know that you have, based on your past experiences, allowed others or yourself to unwittingly run these programs that translate into self rejection behaviors.

SensUality has been an invaluable gateway for me to learn to accept myself the way that I am. My body, my mind, my spirit. To accept my body as god’s gift to me. To recognize negative thoughts in my mind that does not serve me and claim back my own power. To release my spirit and gives it permission to soar and to be free.

Find a way that works for you that can start you on your healing journey today. Take consistent steps and allow your true self to emerge. Transform your self rejection into self love.

And watch your life take flight. :)
