1. Experience

Especially for coaching and dance, experience is everything. Her portfolio indicates her strengths and her ability to deal with clients of varying degree of dance exposure.

2. Qualifications

Personally, qualifications is not as important as experience. Nevertheless it is a bonus. Especially if it means the coach has an understanding of the body anatomy and their respective functions. Also she understands the workings of the human mind, body language and physiology. Including the different strategies we can adopt to achieve various objectives using Neuro Linguistic Programming and other methods.

3. Awards

Sometimes like all things in life, winning an award can be case of good fortune. Winning several awards on the other hand is a consistent indicator of the coach’s expertise. However, bear in mind that a good performer does not necessary equate to being a competent coach.

4. Personality

How crucial this factor is depends on you. Generally, to be taught by someone with a soothing voice and nurturing personality is probably much desirable for you since the nature of the dance is sensitive.

5. Structure

During the course of your time with the coach, how do U feel about the way the course is structured? Its sequence, pace and ease of the flow for you.

6. Relevance

Depending on your objective, you will have to ensure that the coach is the right one to help you fulfill it. Just like cutting an apple with the knife and not with the scissors or any other cutting instruments.

7. Studio

Not necessary true all the time, but if the coach has her own proper settings, chances are that the coach has high commitment to to her work in this area. Does the studio has a conducive and cosy environment for your inner goddess to come up and play?

8. Testimonials

Yes I know it can seem to be overused. However, if the coach has numerous testimonials from different clients, clients from overseas and of different coaching requirements, there should be some credibility there.

9. Extra Mile

What does the coach does that is not required but as a desire to be a better coach? Could be courses in coaching, counseling, NLP, people profile types of course. These are telltale signs of an outstanding coach that stands out from the rest.

Now if budget is an issue or you are taking up a course in a community type of environment, you do not have much luxury of choice. So be realistic. However, still try to find out as much as possible to ensure that your time and effort spend traveling and learning will fully or at least partially fulfill your objective.There are many choices for exotic dance coaching out there. Don’t give up searching and give yourself the chance to experience a brand new you for the new year.Good luck.

SensUal Joy Lifestyle Studio can help you with all that. Founder and principal coach Joy Leng is a professional model, choreographer and dancer with nearly 10 years of experience and training in various modes of dance.

But Joy’s first steps into dance were embarrassing and painful, and she has experienced the nervousness and awkwardness of being in a situation where you are expected to perform, without knowing what you’re supposed to do.

This experience has helped crystallize her approach to teaching at SensUal Joy, where she keeps classes small – half a dozen women at most – as she patiently and carefully teaches exotic dance moves, many applicable outside the professional exotic dance circuit, to Asian women from different backgrounds.

Another reason for the small class size is that, even as a professional dancer, Joy has experienced the frustration of large classes where the scope for individual attention has been limited, where students leave without learning much. At SensUal Joy, she has committed herself to ensuring that individual students of differing levels of training and ability can get the individual instruction they require.

Even though SensUal Joy is a studio explicitly devoted to exotic and pole dance instruction, the lessons offered are aimed at improving confidence and imparting style and grace.
